Pixel 8 Pro Will Support Satellite Communications?

Pixel 8 Pro Will Support Satellite Communications?

About a year ago, a senior Android engineer announced that the Android 14 operating system would get a new feature in 2023 that would allow users to send messages and make phone calls via satellite in an emergency.

This feature already exists on the iPhone, and Google has been preparing to import it. However, as the Android 14 release draws closer, it looks like Google may not be able to meet the original deadline. Recent research has shown that the public interface for satellite functionality is not yet available in Android 14, but it is possible that it will be released in the next update.

Mishaal Rahman explained: “Satellite HAL APIs will not appear in the initial version of Android 14. But they may eventually appear in Android 14 QPR1 or later version QPR.”

That’s not necessarily bad news for Android users. Because the feature may be launched in a subsequent update of Android 14 this year. Google still has plenty of time to finalize the satellite feature and get it ready for launch.

Why did Google announce the feature so early if it wasn’t ready?

We can see clues from Google’s own mobile phone brand Pixel . Satellite capabilities for the Pixel 8 (Pro) have yet to be confirmed. The Pixel 8, due out in the second half of this year, won’t include satellite capabilities.

Overall, it’s too early to say whether the Android Satellite feature will be ready by the time Android 14 launches. However, it’s clear that Google is still working on the feature, which could be released later this year.

All android users have to wait for this technology and see what happens. Of course, in addition to the Apple iPhone, there is another choice for Android phones, which is Huawei phones.

Huawei was the first company to introduce satellite communication capabilities into smartphones and smartwatches, with the Huawei Mate 50 Pro being the first smartphone with satellite communication capabilities. The Huawei P60 series and MateX3 support two-way Beidou satellite messages.
