New Pixel Feature Drop! Includes Many Amazing Features

Google introduced a new Feature Drop for Pixel device owners. All of these are for the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, but for the rest of the Pixels that are still supported,  a subset of “related updates” is available, according to Google.

Anyhow, let’s dive into the drop. December’s Pixel Feature Drop will display Snapchat on the lock screen with a quick tap to snap (if needed). This means you can take snapshots faster than any other device that Google is proud of. Also, “from this month”, you can add a new Pixel exclusive lens to your Snap called Pixel Face. This feature is available on Pixel 4a 5G and later smartphones.

Next, the car key. The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro now can be used as digital car keys for the BMW 2020-2022 model in certain countries. UltraWideBand is enabled on the Pixel 6 Pro for improved close sharing.

Conversation mode is a new “early stage” accessibility feature for the Sound Amp app and is now available in the beta version of Pixels. You can use machine learning on your device to block out competing noise to the other person’s voice so you can hear the conversation better in a noisy environment. If the song is not found automatically, the playing experience will also be upgraded. You can have Pixel search for songs by turning on and tapping the new search button.

This is vaguely expressed in Google’s press release, but we assume that  the search after tapping this button will be done online, as opposed to automatic identification, which is done entirely on the device. To celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities, there are also new wallpapers from the Curated Culture collection.

Car crash detection feature now expanded to Taiwan France and Italy, in addition to Ireland Japan Spain the UK, Singapore, Australia and the US. Your Pixel 3 or higher model will now detect weather you have been in a severe accident or not while this feature is turned on in the Personal Safety app and it will share your current location with the emergency responders.
